Masters of Horror boxed set coming August 28th
Jul 1st, 2007 by Bryan White
This is probably older news by this point but I think it deserves mention for those not paying attention. I saw only a few episodes of the series and what I saw, I thought was pretty good. Coscarelli’s adaptation of Joe R. Landsdale’s ‘Incident On and Off A Mountain Road’ was a high point for the series as was the adaptation of Richard Matheson’s short ‘Dance of the Dead’ based on a script by Matheson’s son. I was also a fan of the Stuart Gordon episode, predictably a Lovecraft adaptation, ‘Dreams In The Witch House’. I realize that the series split fans down the middle, but I was into it. Where it lacked, I was just happy to have a weekly horror anthology series. I figured I’d wait to see all of them when the inevitable season 1 boxed set was released, but to my horror, they began releasing them as one off, full price DVDs, albeit with a few extras, but extras don’t warrant twenty bucks for an hour long horror movie. I didn’t think a boxed set would happen, but I was pleased to discover that they’ll be launching this “Mausoleum” Edition in August with all the episodes of the first season, their respective extras and a few new features as well, including footage of the annual Masters of Horror dinner that Mick Garris has hosted for years and eventually led to the genesis of this show.
I still haven’t seen any of the season 2 episodes and I’ve heard absolutely nothing in the fan reaction department. I looked over the website for season 2 and recognized very few names. I’m still waiting for an episode directed by George Romero.
