Ghost Adventures on Sci-Fi. Keep an eye out for reruns.

Ghost AdventuresI’m in love with the paranormal. My wife and I watch the Sci-Fi channel’s weekly Ghost Hunters show and with its spotty broadcast schedule over the last season, we were hungry for more of that IR camera POV shit. With the last season of Ghost Hunters ending last week, Sci-Fi opted to run another paranormal show in its spot.

Ghost Adventures is not actually a show. This was a feature length documentary shot by three amateurs who are ghost hunters in Las Vegas. They took their equipment and some DV cameras out to several locations around a handful of Nevada ghost towns and wound up shooting some tight footage. It’s easily broken down into two parts. Part 1 keeps it pretty mild with some strange sounds and a lot of “orbs” (circular spots in a ghost photo that investigators think are ghosts. Usually it’s the flash reflecting off of dust or an insect.) but they present a cool shot of an apparition following one of their investigators out of the room.

The second half mostly takes place in a former hotel that has since fallen into disrepair. Two of investigators plan to spend the night and are padlocked inside by the property owner. At first, they hear strange sounds, EVP (ghost voices caught on tape but not heard by the human ear) and the camera catches a few cool orbs but they eventually venture into the basement and shit goes crazy.

The basement footage is absolutely chilling and resembles the tone of the last minutes of The Blair Witch Project or Cannibal Holocaust. The investigators are attacked and flee in the throes of a total sanity meltdown. The final moments of the Goldfield Hotel investigation tapes are genuinely frightening. Real or faked, this is how you do a haunted house movie. It’s creepy as hell and lets you have it at the appropriate times.

Keep your eyes peeled for reruns of Ghost Adventures on the Sci-Fi channel. This more than qualifies in the horror movie category.

    Thanks for coming by, Robert.

Keep an eye out. I spoke with Zak a few weeks ago and it looks like it will be coming to DVD soon. Unfortunately, I don’t have much more information beyond that.

Excuse me, but DAR there was NOT any “strings” moving any boards, or the brick that flew across the room, {In the Hotel episode}! In fact, it was carefully checked by professionals to make sure there was not any footage that was staged. They also said that there was NO way that “strings” would even be strong enough to elevate the brick or boards, AND………that if you look CLOSELY from the way it spun across the room, it was IMPOSSIBLE for it to have been rigged or staged~!!!!!!!!
You would know this, if you would have watched the entire segment, when the professionals discussed this.
