Funny Games poster art

Few movies will ever make you feel as bad as Funny Games. The remote control scene still haunts me.
Despite the self-inflicted trauma that is Funny Games, I still consider it an intense and very satisfying movie. A divine bummer. So I was pretty disappointed when I heard it was being remade for an American release. I imagined a soft ending that wouldn’t send the average movie goer home in troubled silence. Then I found out that Michael Haneke, himself, is directing and that it’s practically shot for shot starring Naomi Watts and Tim Roth and I promptly shut up. Maybe people will be going home in troubled silence after all.
Everyone else is crazy about this one-sheet and so am I. It’s quite a striking design and right about now I’d kill to get my hands on one for my office. Click the image for the larger version of the poster.
Just remember. You brought this on yourself.

Just wait until you see the trailer. My jaw dropped.
Trailer looked interesting though doesn’t seem to be anything more than your standard hostage thriller? I’ll have to check it out and see.
Trust me, Steve. It’s MUCH more than that.
ARGHHHH!!! This movie ticked me off. I just got done watching it. It ended totally not how I was expecting it. The biggest downer of a movie ever. I’m so mad at those two pucks in the movie. I know the director was trying to do something different with this film but the ending was just soooooo weak and so dissapointing!!!! ARGHHH!!! I’m SOOO MAD AT THIS MOVIE!!!! where is the justice!!?
And there you have it. Funny Games. It’s really supposed to be the French new wave by way of Lucio Fulci. The way they break the fourth wall througout and how it ends. It pissed me off, too, but that’s why I like it so much. There is no justice. It just is what it is.
Speaking of Funny Games, I don’t know if any of you follow the show Criminal Minds but last night’s episode began almost exactly like this movie did.
yeah now that I’ve brewed on it a few days I’m totally split about this film. on one hand I can see his attempt about social commentary about violence and changing our perception of it in the movies also how he manipulates our expectations. On the other hand as a movie watcher I absolutely felt so mad and disappointed by there being no justice or resolution. But again that was his purpose. I can honestly say I’ve never had this type of emotional reaction to a film so on that level it’s very unique and interesting but still ticks me off. Pretty amazing a film can do that.
