Stay tuned: Beyond The Rave coming on April 17th
Apr 11th, 2008 by Bryan White
I’ll come clean. I have avoided news about Beyond The Rave for one shallow reason alone. They use the word Rave in the title. Maybe it’s that the Return of the Living Dead sequel, Rave To The Grave left a really bad taste in my mouth or maybe it’s that the whole rave scenario, itself, ran out of gas years ago. It seems like a few years ago every direct to video horror movie was set in some neon lit, glowstick waving club with some anonymous thumping trance soundtrack. Quite frankly, I’m surprised anyone even listens to trance these days. Though, I’m sure it has splintered into dozens of similarly named subgenres of techno these days, each one specific to a single producer or DJ. But enough bagging on electronic music, there’s a bit of hype behind Beyond The Rave. People seem genuinely excited to see where this goes and I’m one among them.
Beyond The Rave marks the return of Hammer Films to very familiar territory. It’s all about British vampires, baby! Though there is no sign of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing is obviously staking the big Dracula in the sky these days but this is going to be an interesting experiment in serialized horror entertainment.
The story is about Ed, who is out on the town before he ships off to Iraq, looking for his girlfriend who was last seen with some hard-partying club types. Turns out that they’re vampires and that they’re hosting an after hours party that is probably going to result in everyone, except for key members of our main cast, getting killed.
Beyond The Rave is set to run for twenty serialized episodes with special effects by Tristan Versluis whose credits include Sweeney Todd, Evil Aliens, The Devils Chair and Hot Fuzz.
