Detroit Metal City trailer

Occasionally, I warm my frosty attitude toward manga when something like Detroit Metal City comes along. It seems strange to me that there could be a comic about a metal band. In cases such as this, half the gag usually goes to the music and it’s tough to put that across on the illustrated page. I mean, a monthly book about Spinal Tap just wouldn’t work, would it? Having a movie, though, helps enormously. Particularly in the case of metal. Being a fan of such music, I fully recognize just how ridiculous some of these bands can be and even though the band in Detroit Metal City is supposed to be some kind of exagerration, the artist probably doesn’t know just how much sillier real black metal bands can look when compared to this band. I doubt anyone in Detroit Metal City winds up burning any churches nor do any of them stab Euronymous. Moving on.
I guess the movie/manga is about a musician who is a total goon. This nerdy, bowl cut-sporting guy who just wants to play music but the only time he ever achieves any kind of success is when he steps into the role of death metal front-man. We follow along as he stumbles through zany fish out of water scene after zany fish out of water scene. I can only imagine that at some point, someone bites the head off a dove. Gene Simmons is in it, too.
This morning, Twitch film posted a link to the trailer. Check it out. It looks like a lot of fun.
