I was looking forward to watching this film not at all... What a joyous surprise... Pure, unadulterated chaos of the most fun kind.

Remember the old-school Bronson films where the director really winds you up with scenes of unspeakable cruelty to the defenseless, then unleashes a bucket of feel-great revenge? That is exactly what we have here. 15 minutes into this gem, I hit the pause button, opened a beer and settled in with a grin.

Todd's review is right on target. Pick up this film, set aside your inner snob and enjoy Stallone in his most pure and natural element.

I'm glad to see a good review for this great movie. I recall walking out of the theatre at the end of this movie and wanting to go buy another ticket and go back in. And that's been over a year ago. I bought the DVD the day it was released.
The over the top gore isn't or everyone, but from what I've read elsewhere the depiction of what a .50 caliber does to a body is quite realistic.
I'm glad to see Stallone back at the top. If "The Expendables" is anywhere near this it'll be a classic!

The most violent of any Stallone flick I can remember, the scene where Rambo commandeers the mounted 50 caliber machine gun.....awesome! That machete too...it was like Rambo channeling Jason Vorhees. First Rocky, then this, Stallone is back!

I couldn't agree more with this review. I was very pleased to see what was done with the legendary Rambo character. Stalone chooses to write and play Rambo in a very wise manner--less talk, more brawny brooding. And I was shocked and pleased to find him never removing his shirt--good choice, very good choice.

Overall, I was very pleased with the film. Being an old-school Rambo fan, I went into the film thinking they were going to severely jack up the character and story (as they usually do), but I was pleasantly surprised. The only glaring error, is the lack of nudity. No, I don't say this from a juvenile state of mind...I say this because it is sad for me to see a thousand brutal deaths, including rape scenes...yet they couldn't show nipple. I can't stand this aspect of American film making. Death, decapitation, rape, child kiling...but don't show nipple!!! Oooooo....our kids might be forever scarred. Dumb.

Other than that silly little contradiction, I really enjoyed the film, and I give Stalone a standing ovation for his wise choice to make Rambo talk very little, and leave his shirt on--he was still a badass, just as I remembered him.
