I caught this in the theater a few weeks ago while I was in Seattle with a bunch of pals who are all fellow Eurotrash fans. A couple of us are big Eurospy buffs and the filmmakers are obviously huge fans of the genre, too. From the techniques (which you highlighted) to the characters and whole scenes (the exaggerated fight scene, the catfight, the fez-wearing hero-tailer, the non-sequiters) OSS 117 totally *gets* it. The comparison to the first AUSTIN POWERS is fair on some levels, but that film is more a "fish out of water" tale than a true spy spoof since most of it takes place in the modern era. By the second film the series had become a more far-reaching spoof/parody and had left the spy genre a secondary influence. OSS 117 is a dead-on, lovingly rendered Eurospy spoof that I can't wait to see again. From what I was told a sequel came out this year (CAIRO was released in France in 2006) but I'm hoping I don't have to wait till 2010 to see it!
