Reminder: Fear, Itself premiers Thursday, June 5th

Fear, ItselfYou know what’s weird? I think I may have mentioned Fear, Itself once when the series was first announced but since then I have been curiously mum. Why is that? I can’t say. Seriously. No idea. I was conflicted about Masters of Horror, the Showtime anthology series that served as a platform for Fear, Itself. On the whole, I was pretty much disappointed by it but I can’t say that I disliked all of it. It had its moments and it was a ballsy maneuver on the part of Showtime to even greenlight such a thing. So imagine my surprise when NBC announced Fear, Itself. They tried to pull off a sci-fi anthology series a while back called Masters of Science Fiction and, quite frankly, I’m not sure why they even bothered. I stumbled onto an episode one night that seemed to feature the cast of Law & Order and then I don’t think I ever saw another one, nor did I ever see it advertised. It just came and went quietly.

Horror fans have a tendency to make a big deal out of this stuff, though, but aside from banners on the usual suspects of horror news sites, I still haven’t seen much publicity for Fear, Itself. So allow me to throw my hat into the ring and attempt to play with the big boys who actually receive money for their promotion of the show (whereas I do not).

This Thursday night (June 5th), at 10:00pm Eastern, Fear, Itself premieres with the episode, Sacrifice, directed by Breck Eisner (son of Michael, the man who transformed Disney into a soulless machine). Eisner is a reasonably new guy whose most noteworthy credit is the colossal flop, Sahara. He is to direct the upcoming remake of Creature From The Black Lagoon (WHY???) and the remake of The Crazies. The episode, written by Stephen King adaptation junkie, Mick Garris, focuses on a group of criminals who take shelter in a remote fort and the strange “sirens” who live there.

I guess we’ll see, but the way I see it is that any horror on TV is good horror on TV. Unless it sucks.
