Scorpio Film Releasing’s Richard Griffin, director of the recent indie H.P. Lovecraft/Lucio Fulci mashup, Beyond The Dunwich Horror just dropped a dime and hit me with the following press release. Word on the street was that following Dunwich, Griffin and company were going to roll cameras on a post-nuke send up called Fists of Karma but an interruption hit earlier this week when the word came down that something was going to be announced later in the week about a new production and the only hint was that it wasn’t Fists of Karma. How about I shut up and let Richard Explain? Details continue after the jump.
Scorpio Film Releasing is proud to announce that their next production will be the horror/comedy MOONSHINE MASSACRE: Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon II.
Principle photography will begin this fall in several New England locations with Ted Marr producing and Richard Griffin directing. The screenplay is currently being written by Tony Nunes from an original idea by Griffin and Ricardo Rebelo.
The cast of MOONSHINE MASSACRE features Beyond the Dunwich Horror cast members Michael Reed, Sarah Nicklin, Brandon Luis Aponte, Christoper Calcagni, Carlos Brum, Shanette Wilson and Danielle Gelehrter.
Also in the cast are Scorpio Film newcomers Richard Tretheway and Andre Boudreau who are starring in screenwriter Nunes’ directorial debut ZOMBIE ALLEGIANCE.
Casting for the film is expected to continue until mid-Summer. Non-union actors who would like to be in the cast and live in the New England area can send their headshots and resumes to scorpiodirector@gmail.com.
“I couldn’t be more overjoyed to be directing the sequel to Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon”, remarks the director. “We had such an amazing time making the original, and I wanted to return to this rather crazed world of moonshine, monsters and mayhem. I know this will be our most insane picture yet and will completely deliver the groceries. I’m overjoyed with the cast and crew we have so far, and I know everyone will deliver their usual 110 percent”!
Future productions for director Griffin and producer Marr include the November 2008 release of their POPCinema produced horror/comedy/musical/romance SPLATTER DISCO, starring genre superstars Ken Foree, Trent Haaga, Lynn Lowry and Debbie Rochon.
Also in the pipeline are the release of their ex-porno actor vampire epic PRETTY DEAD THINGS sometime in early 2009 and the world premiere of Griffin’s comedy THE DYSFUNCTIONAL BOOK CLUB, which was written and produced by Jennifer Scharf this August.
“Christ on a cracker….I need a fucking vacation”, reports a tired, but still smiling, Griffin.
Keep your eyes peeled, folks. The Moonshine Massacre teaser trailer will be hot on the heels of this post.

Interesting! Cant wait.
The first one had lots of potential but ended up being overambitious and a bit of a directionless hodgepodge. Hope they learn their lesson and tighten this one up a bit… I loves me some mutant fish monster movies.
I’m really looking forward to working this picture. The original Hillbilly was highly entertaining and hilarious, and I have no doubt the sequel will follow suit.
I could not be more excited about this project! Richard is a fantastic director to work with and the first Creature From the Hillbilly Lagoon was a riot, so I can’t wait to work on the second one!
“I loves me some mutant fish monster movies.”
Sorry, no fish monsters in this one. After the hardships I had directing the last one in the original film, I vowed never to work with them again. Always demanding more worms, more ice water baths, and worst…. expensive caviar!
The only good thing I can say about directing fish monsters is they do work for scale.
Richard is doing Rhode Island proud! His films keep getting better and better. This will be good.
The first film was great, I can’t wait for the next one.
