Saw 5 Teaser poster

I am way over the Saw series of movies. I haven’t seen any of them past Saw 2. Personally, I’m not so much turned off by the sadism as I am the fact that it takes them less than a year to produce and market a sequel and that pretty much since the inception of the series, there has been a sequel each year. It just seems careless to me.
Though I understand that the sequels are maturing a bit and the story is taking on an interesting degree of continuity. Maybe at some point I’ll bite the bullet and revisit this series. I will give them this, though: Their posters are always really cool. The head on the scale for Saw 4 was pretty neat but this one is even cooler. Click on the image for a closer look.

Whoa. If themovie lives up to HALF of that…
I’ve been the SAW chronicler for Video Watchdog from the beginning–thought the second one was the best, thought the third one was just a bit much, and as for the fourth? Jury’s out till the fifth as they’ve got a LOT of explaining to do–but that poster certainly gives the impression that they’re up for it.
Have to say I enjoyed the first three films. Not the sadism, but the overarching story of the Jigsaw Killer and his plans. The continuity of the first three films struck me as somewhat refreshing compared to say the classic Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the Thirteenth franchises. This series has a feeling of long term planning and direction. Whether this is true once I see the fourth film and the series continues to progress remains to be seen.
Regardless of whether you enjoy the film franchise - you have to admit, they know how to catch your attention with their posters. Heck, on this one they don’t even bother putting the Saw logo on it.
They certainly know how to advertise. Now, if only they could translate that into making a decent movie…
