Usually, there’s some kind of cultural explanation for a particular wave of horror but I’m having a hard time nailing down why all of a sudden slashers are the big deal. It looks like you can add another name to that list. This time around, the killer in question is ChromeSkull, a guy in a chrome skull mask.
As the plot goes, a nameless woman wakes up in a coffin with a bad bump on the head and no idea who she is, where she is or what’s going on. She quickly realizes that she’s a part of killer’s game as ChromeSkull stalks her and everyone who helps her while taping the whole thing on a shoulder cam (which has to get annoying, all shaky and shit, having to change the tape every hour or so). From the looks of things, it’s your standard slasher fare, but if you ask me, slashers don’t really have to change much to be interesting. Check out the trailer below. This one looks pretty brutal. It also has one of my favorite genre stars, Richard Lynch.
The big deal of this feature seems to be that it’s the first feature to be shot entirely in 1080p digital video with a particular compression scheme that maintains higher resolutions on standard DVD format. I think. The DVD also comes with these features:
- Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Hall and Actor/Producer Bobbi Sue Luther
- “Postmortem: The Making of Laid To Rest”
- The SFX of Laid To Rest
- Deleted Scenes
- Bloopers
- Theatrical Trailer
Look for it April 21st from Anchor Bay.
