Well written piece and dead on in my opinion.
I am not a huge fan of the current vampire phase. I found it very telling that Stephen King would slam Myer's so publicly as being a hack. Since Dawson's Creek aired there seems to be this trend of pretty, self-absorbed, pretentious kids inhabiting these books and tv shows that seem so popular these days. Clint Eastwood made some comment in Esquire magazine about the emergence of the pussy generation. I think the vampire has now become a part of that, where he could be easily mistaken for the emo dude on his way to get his locks frosted or whatever the hell they do. Even when Buffy and Angel were around there was at least some air of the vampire as the beast that reveled in the bloodlust. They were what they were....vampires, creatures of the night. True Blood seems to be taking a better path and more logical path and I do enjoy this show. It's certainly aimed at more mature adult audience. I say let monsters be monsters...don't compromise what has made them attractive for so very long.
