I just watched this and I must say, compared to the original Ong Bak this movie is pretty bad.

I'm not sure if the movie is about revenge for his parents. To find the girl from his childhood or just to show that Tien masters all martial arts forms.

Besides the lacking storyline, I felt the fight choreography was pretty bad. I'm a big fan of Tony Jaa and his Muay Thai, but I felt the choreography with his swords play and other martial art forms were not very well polished and seems like he was just imitating what is shown in kung fu films. When he didnt know how to transition a move, he would began using his Muay Thai instead. Yes, this can be view as if he is a real master of all forms, but even then, the fights didn't seem realistic.

Fight scenes of him using Muay Thai are still great, but I feel he does not successfully convey a realistic fight scene when he is imitating the chinese martial arts form.

I'm in the same boat as you. I like the Ong Bak movies as stunt and fight spectacles but there's nothing even resembling a story here. It's a fucking mess but the stunt show is why I came. The third installment of the series is on the review slate for early next month. My expectations for the story are very low but the fights very high.

after walking in blind to the first ong-bak, i was pretty amazed at tony's skills as a stuntman and martial fighter. on the other spectrum, ong-bak 2 took everything that was good and simple in the first ong-bak and crushed it. from the toned down violence, to the funny but intricate scripting all in this new movie seemed to vanish. in its place the only remains of the original are brutal fight scenes that have been taken to the next level. it's truly unfortunate as having seen the first one, the problems that occured behind the scenes of this film are shown throughout a viewing of this movie. you didnt have to read a review if you truly are a tony jaa fan and had viewed the first one in order to understand there were some serious issues with this film. There is virtually no sign of how this is connected to ong-bak {minus jaa being the lead actor} so how is this supposed to be the lead in movie to the ong-bak the martial art community all came to love? anyway, just food for thought. if you can put all that to the side while viewing this film, its can still be viewed without dissapointment.

I just watched the movie "Ong Bak 2" last night with some guys, and that was the best martial arts movie i have seen in a really long time. The way he fights and handles all those different weapons was amazing. Until i saw the creidts, i wonder who did all the fighting scenes and who wrote it, turned out to be Tony Jaa and he even helped direct it to. Tony Jaa is the next generation of martial arts.

Why are asian people so into exploiting and abusing animals, especially elephants? It is such bad karma. I would not be surprised if all those involved in this film had more than 10 years of really bad luck.

Man, I gotta check your blog more often, I loved Ong Bak and had heard ages ago that they were doing another one but hadn't followed up. Your review has me pretty pumped. I remember watching Ong Bak and wondering how those guys weren't really hurt, when he was just crushing everyone in sight.
Anyway, thanks for the review, I'll be getting my hands on this asap.

I have had a love for martial arts flix since I was a young lad growing up in the 80s. The savage grace of Bruce Lee,the down and dirty brutality of Sonny Chiba, the go for broke daredevil style of Jackie Chan, the deadly intensity of Jet Li, the virtuosity of Donnie Yen, really I could go on and on. I had been waiting for years for somebody to really step and become the torch bearer for the next generation of martial arts flix. That torchbearer is Tony Jaa. If your a real martial arts fan you can forgive stupid plots and lousy dialogue as long as you get the ass kicking jaw, dropping goods. It's good to hear Tony is pushing the limits of his craft, and I know he'll find a persona (and some acting chops) along the way. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Cyril Rafaellie is going to do in the B13 sequal. It sounds like he gets a nice chunk of screen time, David Belle not so much unfortunely.
