Great film. Almost meaningless as it reveals very little and subtext is left to the audience. I also loved all the smaller characters, such as the ex-con who get shim into underground fighting and the gay uncle who helps him out.

I found it interesting that at least three (semi) major characters are homosexual (or at least so inclined), while Bronson is very much not, yet at the same time he isn't specifically machismo either, considering his love-struck moments with the young woman. He seems almost helpless in that situation and interestingly never even tried to retaliate against her real love. He just let it be. Yet put him in a situation where he can provoke violence from authority figures and he wastes no time instigating something! It is an interesting balance, making the character highly macho, but also very focused and even asks the question: is he really psychotic or does he just love to do what he is really good at?

Then again, subtext is very subjective in this film.

Ultimately I loved Bronson because it did a lot with very little. There isn't much of a story, there isn't a lot of character depth and there really isn't much of a point. Yet it is a great ride in the strangest of ways, making this a very unique film.

That's funny because as this movie was making the rounds, I'd see the title in this news feed or that and think, "Sweet! Somoene made a movie about Charles Bronson!" Only to have my hopes dashed.

Bummer. I read the title of this post on my blog feed and figured you were writing about 10 TO MIDNIGHT. I'm sure this flick is great but I have to get over having my enthusiasm dampened!
