The Kick-Ass trailer is really sweet!

I was trying so hard not to do what every single website posting this trailer is doing and that is calling the Kick-Ass trailer kick ass. I guess it’s too late. I’ve done it now.

I stopped reading Mark Millar’s book Kick-Ass after only a few issues. Not because it’s a bad book or anything but only because I don’t really buy monthlies anymore thanks to the really high price of comic books these days. I’m also still feeling a little burned by the last page of Millar’s book, Wanted. So color me a little suspicious. Also take into account that I seriously wasn’t feeling Millar’s book, 1985, which follows a very similar premise. Kick-Ass is a good book, though, and after seeing this trailer I’m going to have to buy the back issues and get caught up. It’s a comic about your average comic reading teen in the real world who decides to put on a mask and follow his super hero fantasy. After some really bad beat downs he meets some success and inspires other comic reading kids to dress up and hit the streets. To make up for a lack of physical prowess and super powers, though, they have to resort to some extremely violent tactics and the result is a gleefully violent book that looks like it’ll be a gleefully violent movie.

Kick-Ass is being directed by Matthew Vaughn, who directed the supremely cool gangster flick, Layer Cake and Aaron Johnson as the masked vigilante, Kick-Ass. Expect the movie to drop April 16, 2010.

Well here is to hoping it follows more closely than that god awful adaption of wanted. That was a great comic but was transformed into a generic and subpar action movie keeping afloat strictly by the fact it had jolie and freeman in it. Granted to turn that stark of material into something digestable for the masses would have been damn near impossible but honestly, if you cant do it right then dont do it at all.

So Im hoping Kick-Ass will be more faithfull to its source material. Although as now I cant tell since I have this need to not read a comic till the story arc is done. This has bitten me on the proverbial ass many times when stuff is delayed and Ive had to wait a year and a half for things like Ultimates 2 or Allstar Batman and Robin which seems to have all but dissapeared.
