Perennial podcast favorites of Cinema Suicide, Tank Riot, get a lot of press up in this piece but usually only when their sweet show features me in some capacity. The latest episode, wherein the Wisconsin Trio profile post-apocalypse movies beginning in the 50′s and ending with some very recent titles, does not feature me in any way shape or form but it’s been a while since I’ve urged folks to head over to their site or subscribe to the podcast on iTunes so consider this your reminder. Tank Riot, which is a mixed bag of topics, is one of the strongest podcasts available thanks to the undeniable chemistry of your hosts, Viktor, Sputnik and Tor.
This particular entry, in particular, a corner of cinema that I hold near and dear to my heart, covers the essentials of post-holocaust flicks and many times confuses armageddon with common dystopias and Tor even tries to pass off Star Wars as an apocalypse movie with some very shaky logic (that winds up dismissed in the end). It’s a shame that they didn’t approach the wonders of the Italian and Canadian take on the end of the world but the cornerstones of the genre, many from Australia are covered in great detail and once again, Charlton Heston manages to get an awful lot of coverage. The end product of episode 82 means the longest episode thus far, totalling over 2 hours of running time.
