I’m surprised that we haven’t been seeing more about The Addams Family, which is being produced in Chicago with a couple of big time stage names (Tony winners Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia) but I suspect that the theater news wire isn’t quite as tapped into the horror blogs like the movie community is. Case in point, I only recently stumbled onto the existence of this show when I presented my Twitter network with the question: Who’s hotter? Morticia Addams or Lily Munster? The general consensus was that Morticia beat out Lily 5 to 1. I, personally, put my vote in Morticia, but Nise presented me with a sound case for why Lily Munster should win and why she’s actually more my type.
So, the above photo comes to us from a recent issue of Vanity Fair. The show opened last Friday to positive reviews and tickets are on sale if you’re in the Chicago area or plan to be. There’s also a fairly comprehensive history tackling the production’s road from the pages of the New Yorker to the stage and it’s pretty careful to point out that the show is based on the single panel cartoons from The New Yorker by Charles Addams and bears little in common with the classic show from the 60′s starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones.
