Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was a lot more fun to talk about than it was to read, wasn’t it? Remember when news about this book was all over the horror internet with people in disbelief that Jane Austen’s iconic piece of literature had been turned on its ear? Those were good times, weren’t they? In the end, the book was still that agonizing document that you had to read in high school and not even ninja fights and zombie mayhem did much to alleviate the pain of dry Victorian wit. Quirk Books was so in love with this sudden surge of interest in their company that they squeezed every drop of blood out of the idea that they could and before the book even crossed the publication date they were courting move studios who were romancing this inexplicably hot property for a possible production. There are plans for a graphic novel a prequel novel called Dawn of the Dreadfuls and they even hit another Austen title with Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, which sounds like a tremendously bad idea to me.
Out of the fucking blue comes this bit of news from a suspiciously quiet Twitter Account. Word on the street is that Deadline Productions, a company that, according to the internet, does not exist (by this I mean they have no web presence), is developing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies into a 6 part television series for, presumably, an undisclosed network. They cite no source for this piece of news but their profile is plastered with the image you see up there to left. Click on it for the full version. Many sites on the horror web are reporting this news as though it’s gospel, but let me be the first to be skeptical.
There is nothing on the web aside from that single update from a squirrelly Twitter account. The teaser image, above, is said to be some kind of promo piece but honestly, that poorly photoshopped image could be for anything. I have the same sort of image on my About Us page. Additionally, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies co-author, Seth Grahame-Smith has announced that the book has been optioned by an unnamed big-ass studio and if you want to nail this coffin shut, who the fuck is Deadline Productions? A quick search on teh Gügle turns up a few instances of Deadline Productions but unless you’re shooting commercials in Texas or booking metal bands, you’re probably not going to be interested in these groups. In summation, this sounds like a load. Don’t believe the hype.

FYI:
Pride and Prejudice: published in 1813, first draft finished in 1797
Queen Victoria: born in 1819, crowned in 1837
NB:
Not every old British thing is “Victorian”

Good catch Mitch – JA is Regency, possibly Georgian but not Victorian.
