Well C.L., I think you just sold me on getting the DVD for my collection. I rented it and didn't think it was good because it was badly written etc... but looking back I love bad films years later because of how bad they date themselves. I'm gonna grab this bitch from the used DVD shelf then bury it in my yard for a few years and hope I still have whatever antique video device it takes to play those shiny disk thingies... when I either remember or accidentally dig it out. Ha maybe while I'm out there digging a hold I'll find one of those bad movies from the late 90's... jeez now I also gotta dig out my vcr.

Screw the 'target audience'. Aren't horror fans the target audience? I may also be showing my age, but I have a niece and several cousins the "target age" and even they didn't know half the language they were speaking. I mean...salty? Come on.
It's not that I didn't like the film, I just think that in ten years no one will remember all these slang words, and the movie will become hopelessly dated. So I agree with you on that aspect. Great review.

Megan Fox is like a stripper who won't take her clothes off. I mean it's like people who think of Barbie dolls as sex symbols... because yeah they represent an ideal woman if you're cool with the idea that she has no personality and when she takes her clothes off you aren't going to see anything. As Man Ray once put it, 'One of those perfect girls for men who are obsessed with women and afraid of people with vaginas...'

Still the film does something you didn't give it credit for. Most people have loyality to film makers who make something they like and will follow them to other films and genre. When it all shakes out there were probably a few more people who saw the movie and decided to give other horror a shot... and that helps keep the community fresh by bringing in people with outside backgrounds and knowledge of media which many 'horror fans' wouldn't touch with a 20 ft pole.

Second, there is this mythology that horror is easy... largely because so much of it is made by independent film makers. When someone with a film cred makes a horror movie and fails it's a boon for everyone who makes successful horror movies with much less.

I guess it's weird to say that this is a piece of shit but we need shit to make us aware of the difference... but it's true... maybe one of the Juno fans will follow this movie... recognize it's failure... and get it right later. There are no bad movies... just movies which 'make the genre and filmmaking seem approachable'.
