@Vault World War Z's flaw is that the story has a glimmer of hope to it and in the end they get things under control. The running plotline of The Walking Dead has been a frustrating descent into hopelessness. Things never get better, they only get worse and every time Kirkman writes something into the story to make it seem like our cast is going to catch a break, he pulls the rug out from under us. The show had a really strong dramatic start, but it's just the tip of the iceberg and it makes me wonder where it's going to go from here because the comic hits some notes that are almost unbearable. I cannot beging to tell you how many times I've nearly given up the book because of how bleak it is.

Kirkman himself has responded to the 28 Days Later similarities in the opening. He was on issue 2 when 28 Days Later came out, so it was purely coincidental, and he was annoyed nonetheless, but writes it off as great minds thinking alike.

Stick with it. Like Bryan says, it gets real crazy, and zombies become less of a threat to people than other people actually do.

Agreed, the zombies take a secondary role as this ever present slow-moving-steam roller that will overwhelm anyone too foolish to venture out. This series shows how the human element will have to adapt to this new threat. Where to morals slide? Where will alliances be formed, and where does human civility start and end now that law and order have devolved into chaos. Phenominal show, and can't wait to see more "survival" style elements become fleshed out in the series. I DO hope that they take some notes and concepts from the "World War Z" book to give this awesome adaptation an even more "real" feel to it. Great pilot, can't wait to see Ep2 this weekend... And I just knew that his horse was going to wind up a "snack with a saddle" the second he tried to put reigns on him...

I try not to think too much about the zombies, actually. The real action in the comics happens with the interactions between the survivors. The zombies are just this looming threat that whittles the cast down. The real tension is going to hit when they wind up at the prison.

Thanks for the explanation for the hospital scene. I thought exactly as everyone else, who has seen 28 days later, the pure resemblance. But for the rest... this is going to be a great show!
