I finally got around to watching it the other day and I'm like you... SOV is usually kryptonite to me. The thing I found interesting about SLEDGE was that it really danced that fine line between incompetence and "wow, I can't take my eyes off this" far better than a lot of the supposedly "classic" SOV cult crap. Characters are either universally unlikable or have non-existent personalities. The whole shape-shifting killer and ghostly sledgehammer? Who the F knows?! The pentagrams on the walls and weird sexual subtext (everybody's getting too much or none at all)? I dig DEADLY PREY waaaayyyy more but I found this a very watchable slice of 80s trash cinema. Would make a brain-searing double bill with BOARDING HOUSE.
