Okay, I'll say it, 'cos no one else will: Europe's "The Final Countdown." Put the brickbats down, children, facts is facts. Despite the now-ingrained association with Gob Bluth's preening magic tricks ("Illusions, Michael! A trick is something a whore does for money!") and a rabid readership contingent frothing about how synth-augmented pop metal is not Troo Metal, it is a song that got KNAC airplay about how the human race is using Space Arks for abandoning Earth to emigrate to Venus. Deal. If you can't deal, listen to this peppy ska cover from the Metalliska album [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bhtrXUZuGM ], skank a bit, and join us all again when you're feeling better. 'K?

Bryan, now that you put it so bluntly, I should've never been pleasantly surprised to see Scott Ian on one of BBC America's seasonal recaps of "Doctor Who," as I should've accepted it as a matter of course.

Glad you mentioned Voivod's "Nothingface." It's not technically masterful, but it was my college-era Comfort Food of the Venn diagram of where my Nerddom met my Metalhead inclinations.

And as for Queensryche: Fuck. Yeah. Although "NM156" is always in the prime slot on my own go-to dystopian chase sequence soundtrack, their album "Rage For Order" has definite gems suitable for this list. How are "Screaming In Digital," and "I Dream In Infrared" NOT the title tracks to some obscure '80s Sci-Fi NeoNoir movie, I'll never know. "Neue Regel"... why has no one used that in a montage of a wounded starcraft approaching a hyperpolis? Personal Fun Fact: Every time I am required to select a new password for something, I have to physically restrain myself from entering NM156 for being too obvious.
