I couldn't find a copy and broke down, ordering mine from someone in HK on ebay. I didn't realize there was a collectors edition tin box. May have to look for that.

At some point, I have to sit down to see BR2 which I bought recently at the local Chinese market. Have heard it's not quite as good but I'm hoping it still makes for a fun watch.

Oh man, don't even get me started. We were actually in a really nice country club/hotel near Lichfield due to a booking fuck up. We'd been heading south to the usual tourist spots at the time but one day we headed out to Birmingham for the hell of it. Reminded me of any other American factory town but the key difference was that Black Sabbath was from there.

If you can believe it, there was an American remake of Battle Royale on the slate at one time and then this kid went apeshit at Virginia Tech and killed a few dozen people. The resulting moral panic put the kibosh on that one as well as a published photo of the killer holding a hammer which many people took to mean he watched Oldboy a lot.

Honeymoon in Birmingham! Your joking right? Birmingham, "workshop of the world" England?

You may have heard that the film Gone Baby Gone has been postponed here due to similarities to a story in the news here. It cut a little close to the bone. I'm sure it will be released eventually and surely Battle Royale will come out in your area some time. It's not that bad is it, or have I just become desensitised?

I've flirted with buying the book, but I've heard the translation is a little weird at times. Maybe I'll see about it next time I'm at the comic store.

Ewokmic, I actually bought the Tinbox at an HMV when I was in Birmingham when my wife and I honeymooned in England. I've had bootlegs over the years but I really wanted the real deal. Over here we can order imports of the various Tartan editions at the record store I work at but it takes a dog's age for the discs to arrive. Like I said, Toho just has these ridiculous conditions for theatrical release and that would never fly. I guess that's pretty common with their movie releases here in the states which is why new Godzilla movies rarely ever get concurrent releases with the Japanese release dates.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading the book. Keeping track of all the characters can be a hassle at times, but overall it's a pretty amazing novel.

I didn't realise this was scarce in the US. There have been various special edition releases here in the UK and it can be found in any high street DVD shop, along with BR2 (which I haven't seen). It's a good film well worth "tracking down".
