I have seriously high expectations of this show. Recent AICN interview with Kirkman says that the network is going nuts for the show and that he's down to write several episodes and has a script in for the fourth episode. Greg Nicotero's zombie tests look like Charlie Adlard zombies and the cast is pretty good.

I have no doubt in my mind that the show will be as pessimistic as the comic.

I was just looking at the IMDB for the show last night and realized a lot more people had been cast than I had thought. I had only heard about Rick, Lori and Shane. Looks like theres more though.

Where the hell in those books is his age ever addressed? If anything, Rick is in his mid-30's, maybe even older. Peter Krause looks a lot like the Rick in the books, he might be a little too old, still, but he's on the cusp. Kenneth Mitchell from Jericho might be a little more appropriate but there's nothing in those books to suggest that Rick is in his 20's! Also, by the way Darabont writes Rick and Shane's origin in the script, you get the idea that he's an accomplished, very experienced police officer and the young, inexperienced officer that he later on shoots at the police station, is probably in his mid-20's.

Not to knock you down or anything, but you're shooting way too low. And Ben Foster looks like an asshole with or without facial hair.

You guys are casting too old.

Rick is in his mid 20's.

Rick should be played by Ben Foster.

After hearing about AMC and Frank Darabont's plan to turn The Walking Dead into a tv series, I immediately pictured Tom Jane as Rick. Maybe it's due to the awesome job he did in The Mist, but I can totally see him as Rick Grimes. Darabont and Jane had already worked together on that film, and I can totally see that magic being recreated for this series. Through the Mist, he has already proven that he could play the protective and caring father type character, and through his guest appearance on Arrested Development, we already know what he looks like with a full beard. Haha!

As for the rest of the cast:
Lori = Michelle Monaghan
Glenn = John Cho
Carl = ?
Sophia = ?
Shane = Dominic Purcell
Tyreese = Michael Jai White
Dale = Ray Winstone
Carol = Melissa George
Andrea = Amy Smart
Herschel = James Cromwell
Maggie = Maggie Gyllenhaal

man, I'm all kinds of excited about this... ok Fantasy cast...

Rick : Dream : Kurt Russell, cause he should play everyone... Reality : William Fichtner... Rick is someone who needs to be soft, but at the same time be scary as hell... put a beard on Fichtner, and you've got that.

Lori : Dream : Jennifer Connelly ... Reality : Reiko Aylesworth... she was great in 24

Carl : Dream : Kurt Russell... back in 1960... Reality : Moise Arias... he might be a little old... probably go w/ some nobody that can cry a lot

I could go on and on, but I've got to work!

I guess a the general consensus among Walking Dead fans is that Peter Krause from Six Feet Under would make a good Rick Grimes. I can't say I disagree. That's an awesome call.

Fantasy cast for me would be absolutely nobody that I know of as any other character. It would be ballsy as hell to have the show completely full of unknowns... but honestly it's easier to just accept them as the characters abandoned if they are themselves faceless.

If I were to fantasy cast known people... I'd cast them as zombies... sort of a walk on guest spot of every person they can get to be a zombie for about 10 seconds and then have their head bashed in. Imagine how much fun that could be... they could have get the whole fantasy cast people want (and those they 'hope' aren't cast for the roles)... advertise that they are in it... then put them in as walk in shots with zombies and blow their asses away to introduce people we've never seen before.
